Foster AVID students last week had a chance to explore two local university campuses last week and even talk to some Bulldog alum about their experiences.
First, teacher Kyle Wade and College and Career Counselor Jenni Standard took the freshman AVID class to Seattle University via light rail (for a grand total of more than 15,000 steps!). Then teacher Kristin Theobald and the sophomore and junior AVID students joined Standard to tour UW Tacoma. They met with Foster grads Edgar Lopez and Nadia Merino, Class of 2014, to ask questions and hear their perspective. They also ran into Seham Hamid, Class of 2013, who happens to be one of Foster’s AVID tutors. Alexis Garcia, the UW student who serves as Foster’s College and Career Readiness Assistant, also joined both trips.
AVID is a college- and career-readiness program that helps students dream big and make realistic plans for post-high school success.
